Arriving in Switzerland
By Air
Our region is about an hour and a half away from Switzerland's three main airports, respectively Zurich-Kloten, Geneva-Cointrin and Basel-Mulhouse. The regional airport of Bern-Belp is less than an hour away from the area.
- Zurich: Information about the Airport of Zurich-Kloten. There is a train station in the airport with direct trains to Fribourg (every 30 min). The travel takes about 1.5h. The timetable can be found here .
- Geneva: Information about the Airport of Geneva-Cointrin. There is a train station in the airport with direct trains to Fribourg (every 30 min). The travel takes about 1.5h. The timetable can be found here .
- Basel: Information about the Airport of Basle-Mulhouse. A shuttle bus brings you directly to the train station of Basel. Trains bring you to Fribourg (every hour). Count about 2h for the total travel. The timetable can be found here.
- Bern: Information about the Airport of Bern-Belp. A shuttle bus brings you directly to the train station of Bern. Direct trains bring you to Fribourg (every 30 min). The travel takes 20 min. The timetable can be found here.
By train
Switzerland has one of the densest railway net and offers one of the best public transport systems in the world. Tickets are however expensive. Fribourg is on the country's main railway axis, which links Geneva to Zurich. The Timetable of all trains and buses in and to Switzerland can be found here.
By car
Fribourg is crossed by two of Switzerland's main motorway axes: the A1 motorway, which crosses Switzerland from east to west, and the A12, which links Berne to Vevey.
Parking
There are parking possibilities around the youth hostel and the conference venues:
Parking garages (with charge): Parkhaus Miséricorde, Avenue de l'Europe (next to the youth hostel and the conference venue of April 2nd and 3d), Parkhaus Alpes, Square de Places (city center, near the youth hostel and the conference venue of April 2nd and 3d).
Parking lots: There is a lot (with charge) in front of the Youth Hostel, but cars can be left only some hours. A free lot is Parking at the ice stadium Patinoire St-Léonard. To reach the town center (youth hostel and conference venue), take bus 1 (a bus stop is next to the parking), direction Marly-Gerine (price CHF 2,20). Get off at the train station.
Everywhere in town are parking spaces (white: with charge, blue: for free, you need a blue zone card), but parking is normally limited to some hours.

General information
- Fribourg is a small university town founded in 1157 and capital of the Canton Fribourg. The town is bilingual, its official languages are French and German. An overview of its situation, history etc. can be found here.
- There is a performant public transportion in the city of Fribourg. However, the town center is small, thus all places (hostel, conference venue, restaurants etc) can be reached by foot.
